about

C. Lavender is a Hudson Valley, New York based sound artist, educator, and healer whose work spans through live performance, recording, installations and workshops. Her productions are drawn from an intuitive place where there is a reverence for the delicate interplay between chance-based experimentation and rigid composition. She seeks to create an immersive aural landscape for the listener, an experience which is intensely physical, emotional and ultimately cathartic

Her second full length album, "Vanishing Light," was recorded between 2013-2014 in a 1920's elementary school building which was converted into a county mental health center in the 1970's.

C. Lavender explored the building which featured a large auditorium from its time as a school and set-up a studio in the prescription room from its mental health center days. A Prozac poster still hung crooked on the door in the windowless room. C. Lavender was regularly alone in the building (now known as Second Ward Foundation, a non-profit arts organization) and this album seeks to recount the lives of those who passed through its doors including children, teachers, community health workers and the patients who sought refuge there.

Where does one go when they are feeling overwhelmed by life? Do we choose to be studied through a two-way mirror in hopes those behind it have our best interests in mind or do we choose to live as outsiders and let our internal conflicts unfold without help? "Vanishing Light" expresses these two divergent realms in a time when mental wellness is a constant struggle for many.
